Randolph Carr was born on September 29, 1924. After attending the University of Mexico and Harvard University, he graduated from the University of Chicago with an M.A. in Oriental Languages and Literatures in 1948. Carr then worked for the Army Security Agency as a Persian Language Specialist and as a Foreign Affairs Analyst at the State Department and Department of Defense.
